From the video here is a brief overview.
●
Ride Heights: We'll examine common measuring points, typically under the lower control arms in the front and at the back box in the rear. We will talk about how a typical ride height for mod lights is around 5 inches in the front and 5 1/2 inches in the rear. We will also discuss how these cars are not wedged but are given a slight rake of a half to 3/4 inch.
●
Left Rear Spring Gap: We'll tackle the issue of the left rear spring gap, which often occurs with the common 10-inch spring. We'll discuss how this can cause the car to fall before reaching the spring load and some potential solutions.
●
Right Rear Issues: We'll discuss why racing solely on the right rear is not ideal and how shaft placement and spring orientation can affect the car's performance.
●
Right Front Tie Down: Learn about the importance of right front tie down for maintaining momentum through corners. We'll discuss how the speed in Mod Lites emphasizes the importance of carrying momentum.
●
Tires: We'll cover the two main tire types used in mod lite racing:
○
Hoosier tires: A three-ply, hard tire that doesn't bicycle much but can be harder to hook up. Tire pressures are typically around 8 psi on the left and 10 psi on the right.
○
American Racer tires: A two-ply, softer tire that is more prone to bicycling, requiring higher tire pressures. Tire pressures are typically around 10 psi on the left and 12 psi on the right.
●
Spring Rates: We'll explore recommended spring rates for each corner of the car, including:
Right Front: 200-230
Left Front: 180-200
Right Rear: 160-200, with an emphasis on starting at 180 and moving upwards
Left Rear: 130-150 with a 10 inch spring; 70-80 with a 12 inch, 2 1/2 inch spring.
Shocks: We will go over typical shock valving, including
RF1-50/130@100PSI
LF1-40/160@100PSI
RR 150/160@100PSI
LR 125/300@150PSI
We'll discuss the meaning of shock call-outs and how to understand the valving.
